In May we celebrated the 150th anniversary of the father of psychoanalysis Sigmund Freud , one of the intellectual exponents of the twentieth century and in commemoration we will examine one of the concepts included in his work "Zur Einfuhrung des Narzißmus" ("Introduction to narcissism") that according to some experts has already become obsolete, we refer to penis envy.
The penis envy that Freud was talking about, is it real? Right?
What better way to celebrate the anniversary of a character as controversial as Sigmund Freud (whose psychoanalysis theories you can know better through these phrases) , than with a little of polemic! Yes, because although in his time this theory was completely revolutionary since with it he postulated the existence of child sexuality in a social environment as prudish as that of Vienna in the early twentieth century, where just talking about sex was almost sin. This illustrious man comes and says that the sexual development of women is determined by a key moment, which takes place in childhood between the 3 and a half years and the 6, when comparing his genitals with those of a man, he discovers that they are larger and therefore will provide greater pleasure. Thus, according to Freud-an envy of the penis, which will eventually become first in a longing, in an admiration-love for the father-and later on it will translate into the desire to give birth to a child, because only through intercourse the woman can satisfy that longing to have the penis.

The first criticisms of this aspect of psychoanalysis soon emerged, already in Freud's time, from a German psychologist and psychoanalyst colleague Karen Horney who states that psychological differences between the two sexes , is not dictated by the obvious and necessary biological differences of the same, but they owe their origin to different social and cultural factors. Therefore penis envy it would be rather an envy of the advantages and privileges of those that the man of that century enjoyed and those that the woman lacked.

On the other hand, Freudian reasoning:" larger genitals produce greater pleasure "has been torn down over time and scientific research. It has been widely demonstrated that the clitoris , although smaller, has about 8000 nerve endings, even more than the penis may have, not to mention that both the walls of the vagina and the lips also have sensitivity , also of the already famous G-spot , located in the urethral sponge, so that female pleasure would not be at all disadvantaged, rather the opposite.
And you, what do you think is right with your theory? Tell us.
