It is a very rare disease, and it exists.
3% of people may be unable to recognize voices. Is this your case?
This disease that prevents recognizing voices is called phonagnosia , and is usually associated with brain lesions in the right hemisphere.Experts still do not know how exactly this disorder works, given its rarity.

However, in a study of the magazine Brain and Language , it was known that there is a margin of at least 3%, in which the presence of phonagnosia would be evident. In this study, psychologists from the University of California from the South they made a a survey of 730 participants, of which 23 would apparently have phonagnosia.
The test included fragments of speeches from well-known people, such as politicians, actors or musicians, and they made sure that respondents knew all of these beforehand people; They heard two short clips, one from a stranger and one from one of the celebrities.
What they had to do was say which clip contained the famous voice and then identify it in photos.they could imagine the voices of some celebrities, along with other kinds of sounds, like breaking glass.
On average, people had a 76% accuracy identifying the voices , and a 3.2% of the sample obtained more than 2.28 standard deviations below. The researchers thus concluded that these people were prone to suffer from phonagnosia, which is the inability to recognize voices, even family members.

People with this rare disorder may appreciate music, even if does not recognize any singer ; They also often have great difficulty associating voices and names, or discriminating between new and old voices, although they may register different emotions in spoken speeches.
Another thing the study could see is that people older people tended to get better results in tests than younger ones, which could indicate that people are born with phonagnosia, is not something acquired over time, unless is a product of brain trauma.
