The psychologist Lora Park, along with her team at the University of Buffalo; Ariana Young and Paul Eastwick, studied the reactions of men to women who were smarter than them. In one of the studies, some students were asked a hypothetical situation in which a girl performs better and worse than them in a math or English class: How would they feel? What would they think? How would they behave?

Then they were asked how desirable they would see her in terms of a long-term love relationship. The men agreed that they preferred the woman who performed less than they as a romantic companion.

In another study, university students were gathered in a classroom with a woman with higher education and was going to take an exam with them.
