If, as you read it, the first computer manufactured in Greece does nothing more and nothing less than 2000 years; because in Lifestyle we love the history of inventions, surely this will also surprise you.
The First Computer in History
Considered as the first computer in history for many, it seems dating from 150 to 100 BC, although for Christian C.Carman , historian of the National University of Quilmes, Argentina, and James Evans, physicist at Puget University Sound in Washington, dates at least a century earlier.
Also known as the Anticitera mechanism , this curious device was discovered in 1901 along with other important findings-378 more objects-in a shipwreck near the island of Anticitera, although it took more than a century to discover its meaning, specifically in 2006.
Its appearance is very similar to the mechanism of the clocks of Bracelet and its technical complexity, for the time to which it belongs, has earned the recognition of OOPArt ( Out Of Place Artifact ).This curious title is given to objects which, due to their complexity, does not seem to be from the era in which they were made, but from much later historical epochs. In fact, similar mechanisms have not been found until the European Middle Ages .
The study of the Anticitera Mechanism
In the 2006 British and American scientists published in the Nature magazine an interesting study in which they recreated as This first computer worked.Meanwhile, Michael Wright, restorer of the Science Museum in London has also rebuilt the Anticitera mechanism.
Anticitera Mechanism (Fragment A-reverse)According to the ci Entificos the machine reproduced almost perfectly the theory of Hipparchus of Nicea; According to his theory, the moon revolves faster around the earth the closer it is to it.It seems to serve to calculate the periodicity of the eclipses of sun and moon and the position of the sun, moon and planets that were known at that time, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn, in addition to the date of the Olympic games
Carman and Evans They have studied the inscriptions that appear on this device and have concluded that the formulas that appear to calculate the eclipses are not from the Greek era, but babilonica.
New research on the Anticitera mechanism
As of September 15, 2014 and for a entire month an underwater expedition was organized to investigate this wreck again, financed by the Swiss watch brand Hublot and other private Greek companies.A budget between 2 and 3 million dollars .And that is That the Anticitera mechanism still has a lot to say...
If you want to see it in person, the Anticitera mechanism is in the Bronze Collection of the National Archaeological Museum of Athens.
