The emigration for economic reasons is the order of the day, but it is not something new.For centuries people have moved to other regions and countries to make a living.On many occasions men and women march alone , leaving behind their families waiting for their return or being able to meet one day.Sometimes, die in those places , know the history of a ship, the SS Ventnor, the floating coffin that was shipwrecked on the way to China .

According to the tradition china , the spirits of more than 500 men of that nationality roam the coast of Taranaki, in New Zealand , will not be able to rest and live like ghosts until be buried and honored by their successors. Their bodies, inside their coffins, sank with SS Ventnor on October 28, 1902 .Who were these men?

In 1861 a "gold rush" was launched in Otago (New Zealand) thousands of miners from European origin to try to get rich in the mines of that material.After the first years and practically exhausted the deposits, these first miners abandoned them .It was then when the New Zealand government sent an invitation to the men of the Chinese region of Guangdong , who were miners, to work in these deposits.Due to the bad situation that was lived in that country , there were thousands who responded and moved to New Zealand .Due to that large number, years later the government itself would penalize the arrival of Chinese immigrants with very high rates.

These workers joined in a association to preserve their customs and traditions as far as possible, the "Cheong Sing Tong" .Their members put their resources in common to be able to repatriate the corpses of the dead miners.Se chartered several ships , the last one was the SS Ventnor.

In the SS Ventnor loaded 499 coffins lined with lead .Along with them were traveling 6 elderly miners in charge of their care .The ship left for China in October 1902.Bad luck meant that collided with rocks , a waterway will open and for almost 24 hours As he sailed trying to get to Auckland to be repaired.Finally the captain ordered to leave the ship .He, several crew members and the elderly, did not have time to save themselves and perished when the ship sank with the 499 coffins in his cellar .Some bodies that reached the coast were buried by the maories.
Since then, the history of SS Ventnor became a legend until , in 2014 , a team preparing a documentary found the wreckage .The New Zealand government has declared the "protected" zone , respecting it as if the tomb of the miners were, as a spiritual and cultural asset.
