The month of August of 1985 is remembered as the blackest month in the history of aviation .The reason? It was when the greatest number of people, including passengers and crew members, died in different air accidents. They were four weeks of death and terror.
August 1985: the TERRIBLE black month of aviation
August 1985, the black month of aviation, terrifies them four weeks in which hundreds of families lost their loved ones.In total, four air accidents in which 720 people lost their lives .
The most catastrophic of the four accidents was the Japan Air Lines flight 123 , which killed 520 people out of the 524 who were on board.Delta flight 191 in which 137 people lost their lives.Continued flight 28M of British Airtours, whose fire took the lives of 55 passengers. Finally, but not least, all those traveling in the small aircraft of Bar Harbor Airlines lost their lives when the device approached the airport of Maine, United States.

The most terrible of all accidents was that of Japan Air Lines .The flight was traveling from Tokyo to Osaka on August 12, 1985 when a screen was broken between the cabin and the tail of the plane This break caused a change in pressure that in turn broke the vertical stabilizer located on the tail of the plane. The crew made its best effort, but after half an hour flight 123 began its final descent.
From the moment the fault was detected until the crash of the plane, 30 minutes passed in which many passengers wrote notes and farewell letters for their families. Finally, the plane crashed into a mountain. The experts concluded that the failure occurred when, 7 years earlier, the plane hit its tail against the runway .The blow, unfortunately, was not well repaired by Boeing engineers and the airline did not detect the error. It is uncommon for a plane crash to occur due to a single failure.
Just 10 days after the crash of flight 28M from British Airtours .When the plane was preparing to take off a hole in the fuel tank, it generated a large fireball.Although the pilots aborted takeoff, the flare that claimed the lives of 55 people had already taken place. The pilots maneuvered the plane in such a way that smoke flooded the cabin and most of the victims died from smoke inhalation.

This accident completely changed the design of commercial aircraft , as the experts concluded that the little space between the seats, coupled with the complexity of opening the emergency doors caused the tragedy. Then, the pilot maneuver protocol was changed, the seats were spaced, fireproof covers were included and evacuation rules were changed.
On August 2 the flight pilot Delta 191 lost control of the ship when it encountered a mini gust of wind. The plane crashed into a highway , killing a driver, then catching fire.Of the 163 passengers , only 27 survived.
From that terrible experience it was concluded that the pilots had to receive more training to be able to successfully exit these situations.of commercial aircraft an alert system that will detect these gusts.
Finally, from the accident of Bar Harbor Airlines it was concluded that the inexperience of the pilots together with a radar failure of land were responsible for the tragedy.
Although the August 198 5 is considered the black month of aviation, numerous reforms emerged from there.Reforms that dramatically improved aviation safety. And you, are you afraid of airplanes?
