Whether it's the deep shades of magenta or the light ones of the carnation, the color pink is, for better or worse, associated with femininity. This was not always the case .In fact , once it was the opposite.
Pink for boys
In 1918, an article in a commercial publication called "Earnshaw Children's Department", stated that, taking into account that this color derives from red, «Pink is for children, and blue is for girls. The reason is that pink, being a stronger and more determined color, is more suitable for the child , while blue, which is more delicate and exquisite, is more beautiful for the girl «.

A 1927 survey by Time magazine showed that the large stores were totally lost when recommending colors in gender function .Some preferred pink for boys and blue for girls, while others said the opposite."It seems, then, that there is no unanimous opinion in the United States on pink and blue" concluded the article.
So, when did the gap between these two colors open?
Up to a point, the change happened after World War II.then president of the United States, Dwight Eisenhower, appeared in the inaugural dance with an impressive dress made in pink taffeta adorned with 2,000 crystals and long gloves of the same tone. That pink was the favorite color of the First Lady was not left in an anecdote.«Femininity was wrapped in pink, and the rest of the products did the same , from shampoos to luxury fashion.»

In fact, the 50s and 60s are full of pink moments: From the strawberry-colored Chanel suit that Jackie Kennedy wore the day JFK was killed, to the sexy pink dress of Marilyn Monroe in «Gentlemen prefer them blondes ».

But in any case, when we look at the big picture, we can see that the trend of "pink is for girls" is actually quite recent.
