Shain was a 27-year-old girl who worked as a nurse at Doctors Hospital in New York and McDuffie, a sailor of only 18 years.
It was 7 p.m. a August 15, 1945 when President Truman made the news through the screens that had been installed in the New York square: The Second World War was over! When everyone heard the news, they jumped into the streets full of jubilee, to celebrate the end of the conflict.
The sailor Glenn Edward McDuffie coming out of the subway at that time He launched a nurse who saw him smile at him and planted this movie kiss. Photographer Alfred Eisenstaedt captured the image for the "Life" magazine .An image that gave, and continues to go, around the world and that represents much more than a kiss: the happiness of the human being at the end of a war.
Many affirmed be the protagonists of the photo, since in the image the faces of the protagonists are not appreciated.To the photo several boyfriends came out, never better said!
The mess became clear in 2007 when a forensic photo of the Department Houston Police, Lois Gibson, analyzed the muscles, hands and ears of the character in the photo and concluded that McDuffie was undoubtedly the protagonist.How did he do it? With the help of Duffie that I pose for hours before the coroner hugging and kissing a pillow!
Shain died in 2010 with 91 years and Glenn in 2014 with 86 years .On the 65th anniversary of photography, in the year 2000 , a first event was held in which many couples formed by veterans of World War II merged into a kiss with your partners.
On August 14 of 2015 again hundreds of couples, they dressed as sailors and they nurses kissed in the mythical Times Square in New York to remember the l 70 anniversary of that wonderful and spontaneous kiss.
Later, the photo generated some controversy , since some doubt that the kiss was so spon taneo for having become so tremendously famous.Duffie always affirmed that she was totally spontaneous and that, while kissing the nurse, she saw someone taking a picture of them.And you, what do you think?
