There is always talk of maintaining a positive, cheerful and optimistic attitude, which assures you a better quality of life. The effects of negative thoughts on health and the diseases that we can get if we are continuously stressed or furious are proven. But, did you know that the moodiness is perhaps related to emotional intelligence?
Are being grunon and being intelligent related?
An interesting study published in the magazine Australasian Science showed that is not always optimistic and seeing the best side of things helps to see situations critically and assertive.
This research was led by psychologist and behavioral specialist Joseph Forgas , from the University of New South Wales in Australia, and indicated that the moodiness often gives mental clarity, and in this sense could be associated with intelligence.
When we We feel upset (not “blind with anger,” which is different), the brain acts differently, promoting information processing strategies. For example, it improves memory and judgment.
In other words , according to the study, we make better decisions under these moods.
Good humor, on the other hand, tends to blur our perception of situations .Dr.Forgas made a experiment, which was interviewing more than 70 people when leaving a stationery store, and asking them how they felt.Next, I asked them another question: “Which of the ten small objects located next to the cash register can you remember?”, and surprisingly those who said they felt bad, or sad, or moody, remembered with much more precision those things that usually tend to be roasting unnoticed.
These people have more memory and generally have less propensity for manipulation than positive people, in addition to being more self-critical and more frequently responsible for their mistakes.
A positive mood promotes creativity, cooperation and flexibility and tolerance-not at all negligible abilities that help us in our social development-but the incredible thing about this experiment was the finding that the bad genius improves the attention and generates a more prudent thought (because situations are analyzed with greater distance and objectivity), and that sadness, strange as it may seem, facilitates the strategies to emerge gracefully in difficult situations.
It is important to understand that we are not talking about pathological states, such as depression , or of a constant moodiness. We simply indicate that it is not always appropriate to maintain optimism, as this prevents us from clearly seeing the extent or severity of the circumstances. As they say there, "we must put our feet on the ground."
Another curious fact was related to the weather: Forgas discovered that humid and gray days accentuate memory, and sunny days tend to make people forgetful...Interesting, right? Besides that time also influences our state of mind.
Be that as it may, you see that it is okay that from time to time it unleashes that grumpy little genie that many of us have inside. It is part of emotional intelligence.Get upset, and express your emotions.Sometimes, seeing "the half-empty glass" can help you find ways to fill it.
