A recent study carried out conducted by scientists from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid , I determine that cocoa has a positive effect on diseases such as Type 2 diabetes , since significantly delays its progress.
What is diabetes?
Diabetes is a chronic disease , the It is generated when the body cannot regulate the amount of sugar in the blood.Type 2 diabetes, specifically, is the most common, tends to have its first symptoms at adulthood. However, due to the increase in the rates of obesity in children and adolescents it is presenting itself more and more at an early age.
Type 2 diabetes usually appears in people who don't they eat healthy and have obesity problems , although there are also exceptions and thin people can get it.The genetics factor also plays a key factor in the appearance of this disease.
Allied cocoa in the fight against type 2 diabetes
The Institute of Food Science and Technology and Nutrition of the Higher Council for Scientific Research ( CSIC ), the Complutense University of Madrid and the Biomedical Research Center in the Diabetes and Associated Metabolic Diseases Network of the Carlos III Health Institute (Spain) concluded that cocoa is rich in flavanols, bioactive compounds and has a lot of antioxidants that have proven to be effective To delay the progress of type 2 diabetes .
To reach this conclusion, the scientific team used laboratory mice , who was fed a diet rich in cocoa during the pre-diabetic stage. The results were a decrease in hyperglycemia, improved their ability to process blood sugar and if that were not enough, too, They presented a marked improvement in the activity of the antioxidant defenses of the pancreas.
The leader of this study, the scientist , Maria Angeles Martin points out that it is the first time it is left in evidence and effectively verifies the benefits that cocoa has on this disease. In this regard, he explains:
“These results show for the first time in an an imal in vivo that cocoa could protect against the loss of function and mass of beta cells in the pancreas that occurs in type 2 diabetes and therefore delay the progression of the disease ”
In the United States alone there are more than 29 million of people diagnosed with diabetes, in addition an increase of this figure is projected as a result of the poor nutrition of society, also Diabetes has been registered as the seventh cause of death among Americans.
This study was published in the Molecular Nutrition and Food Research shows hopeful results in the fight against this disease, which has become much more common than previously thought, affecting millions of people around the world.
